David Brooks je sodobni avstralski pesnik. Tole njegovo pesem imam
že dolgo shranjeno na računalniku, našel sem jo na strani
Poetry International Web.
Všeč mi je jasnost njenih podob, motiv zrcaljenja svetov in občutek
polzenja, drsenja, gibanja vseh stvari.
Tu je original:

David Brooks
The Dark Trees
Leave your house, rise
from the table
where the candles have guttered
and a blue light
through the shutters
creeps over the fishbones and the broken bread,
go out
under the dark trees
to where the boat
lies waiting by the rock,
pull it
across the grey sand to the water’s edge
and push
out over the glistening bay.
As you row
along the bright path that the moon has made,
think
that the soft light of the moon
has entered everything,
that somewhere
far beneath you
a sunken boat
lies waiting by a rock,
that all around
the dark trees of the coral and the weed
bend gently
as the cold winds through them,
that fish
the colour
of moonlight
drift all night through their branches.

Tu je moj poskus prevoda, ki pa mi ne deluje tako tekoče in zvočno
sugestivno kot original. Če ima kdo kakšen predlog ali popravek, bi
bil vesel.

Temna drevesa
Zapusti svojo hišo, pojdi
od mize,
kjer vosek polzi s sveč
in se modra svetloba
plazi skozi oknice
čez ribje kosti in prelomljen kruh,
pojdi
pod temnimi drevesi
tja, kjer čoln
leži čakajoč ob skali,
povleci ga
po sivem pesku do vode
in potisni
v lesketavi zaliv.
Ko veslaš
vzdož svetle poti, ki jo je izhodil mesec,
pomisli,
da je mehka svetloba lune
vstopila v vse stvari,
da nekje
globoko spodaj
potopljen čoln
leži čakajoč ob skali,
da se povsod naokoli
temna drevesa koral in trav
lahno upogibajo,
ko hladen tok vije skoznje,
da ribje jate
v barvi
mesečine
vso noč drsijo čez njihove veje.
