No, we can't be just friends.

We were never really friends.

We were crushes, then lovers, then each others pain and heartbreak,

but never friends.

You knew me in ways friendship never learns,

and to me, you were so much more than just that.

Small talks, deep conversations or flirty texts,

they were all real, like the greatest hug, the best gift, the kind that left a smile I couldn’t hide

But there was nothing friendly about them.

Not in a friends only kind of way.

My friends were your friends,

and yours became mine.

But never could i have imagined talking to you the same way we talked to them,

never could i have imagined talking to them, asking how you are, because i cannot ask you that question myself. 

For we are not a thing anymore; not crushes, not lovers, not even each others pain, 

and definetly i cannot ask you that

just as a friend.
