It's 3 am again and
you asked me
what the silence of my city
sounds like

It's a beautiful silence

It's a highway's distant hum
that creeps into my bedroom
and tells me of the souls
traveling under stormy clouds

It's a trickle of the rain
sliding down the drains
and falling, ever so gently
telling me of warm spring to come

It's the rumble of a car
that reminds me of my own
sleepless nights, spent driving
staring at the blinking stars
~
It's a sparkle of the cigarette
and a swirl of the smoke,
a gulp of wine and tiny smile
that accompanies my 3am
~
It's the kind of silence
that sneakily breaks into you
leaving your heart raw
and your eyes burning
~
But it's the kind of silence
that lets itself be wittnessed
by the poets, the gentle and the broken
~
It's a 3 am kind of silence
Loud and tired and a little sad
~
