XVI

First supper

Every morning life goes on.*

Guess I'll die another day.*

Used to living on my own.*

No Molly I could play with clay.*

Someone knockin' on my door!

Pretty please, what can I do?

Papers you can borrow, sure.

Coffee maybe, me and you?

Better not get my hopes up.

Well, she didn't catch a flu.

Nodded to another cup.

Here goes coffee number two.

»Netherlands? Never been there.«

»Then why the hell you say you're Dutch?«

»An ancient nickname. To be fair,

I didn't like it all that much

at first. But then... It grew on me.

My best friend never called me that.

He somehow sensed my anger, see,

and called me Lyuto, well, instead.«

»Angry? Yes. And also, sad.«

I was surprised how she could tell.

»It's just I'm going slightly mad*

time after time.«* She nodded. »Well,

no use to dwell in the past, I believe.

Live for the moment!« She gave me a wink.

Summertime girl? Or a hex to deceive?

»Next round is on me.« So she ordered a drink.

»Anyone special, you know, in your life?«

»Why do you ask? Wanna order a wife?«

»Not yet. Just a dinner. To see more of you.

But first, you should answer.« And she said: »I do.

Have someone special. A kitten named Lars.

No soul man*, though.« I gave thanks to the stars.

»Here is my number. Just give me a call

one day in advance.« Yep, I'm on a roll.

I know it's just supper. But something feels right.

The name of her kitten... Somewhat of a light.
